Job Requirements (Qualifications)

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in clinical or hospital settings (2 years preferred)
  • Medical Assistant Certification required (CMA, RMA or equivalent preferred)
  • Current BLS certification required (ACLS, PALS, NRP, RRT preferred)
  • Experience in Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department (ED), PICU, or Pediatrics strongly preferred
  • Insurance/authorization knowledge and experience scheduling imaging and obtaining authorizations
  • Proficient with charting/EMR systems (MyChart experience a plus; Epic, Cerner or equivalent acceptable)
  • Ability to float to other campuses as needed; flexible and team-oriented
  • First-time travel Medical Assistants welcomed
  • Must be separated from any Providence-affiliated facility for at least 3 months if previously employed

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support and patient intake: room patients, obtain vital signs, record medical histories, and prepare patients for exams
  • Perform venipuncture, finger sticks (blood glucose), urine collection, and label/handle specimens correctly
  • Administer immunizations, TB tests, and nebulizer treatments per protocol
  • Assist with suture removal, basic airway management procedures, and support ventilator-related tasks as directed (assistive role)
  • Coordinate scheduling for imaging, order authorizations, and facilitate pharmacy communications for refills
  • Manage MyChart messages, patient/family telephone triage, and follow-up calls to ensure continuity of care
  • Support interdisciplinary teams (nursing, surgeons, respiratory therapy, pharmacy) to maintain high-quality patient care
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record and adhere to hospital policies and infection control standards
