Join a renowned Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in Durham, NC (27710). This 13-week travel nurse assignment offers the chance to care for critically ill neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital heart disease. Work with a collaborative interdisciplinary team using state-of-the-art technology including ECMO, VADs, and CRRT in the Research Triangle region (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill).

Job Details – Travel RN / PICU Nurse

• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (May 4, 2026 – August 3, 2026)
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910 – $2,010 (competitive travel RN pay)
• Setting: Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) – Pediatric ICU / PICU nurse role
• Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (07:00 – 19:30), every other weekend required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents
• Unit Size: 20 beds; average daily census 20
• Start Date: May 4, 2026 (targeted)
• Orientation: Bi-weekly, 36 hours
• Job Location: Durham, NC 27710 — Durham County; near Research Triangle Park

Required Qualifications (PICU / PCICU Registered Nurse)

• Minimum 1 year recent PICU or PCICU RN experience caring for pediatric cardiac patients
• Active North Carolina (NC) or Compact RN license (must be in hand at submission)
• Current BLS and PALS certifications (must be in hand at submission)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record preferred
• Previous charge nurse, community hospital, LTAC, or Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
• One supervisory reference from the past year required
• First-time travel nurses and local candidates (within 75 miles) encouraged to apply

Primary Responsibilities – Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse

• Provide high-quality, compassionate care to pediatric cardiac intensive care patients and post-operative congenital heart surgery patients
• Manage complex congenital heart disease cases across neonates to adolescents
• Operate and monitor advanced life support technology including VADs, ECMO, and CRRT
• Administer medications, blood products, and chemotherapy as clinically indicated
• Perform and assist with critical procedures: intubation, lumbar puncture, central line care, and more
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamics, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and dysrhythmias
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams: respiratory therapy, IV team, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social work
• Float to other units as required to support patient care needs
• Document nursing care accurately in Epic (preferred) and participate in bi-weekly orientation and continuing training
