Job Requirements - Inpatient Medical Coder

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in inpatient coding (inpatient coder / clinical coding)
  • Proficiency with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and familiarity with HCPCS (remote medical coding skills)
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Understanding of insurance processes and denial reconciliation
  • Ability to meet quality expectations within 4-6 weeks and production standards within 2 months
  • Must pass an internal coding test (passing score: 70%; test sent within 72 hours; 1 week to complete)
  • Excellent attention to detail, commitment to coding compliance, and strong time-management for remote work

Responsibilities - Inpatient Coding & Documentation

  • Accurately code inpatient multi-specialty cases, including ancillary/series, emergency department, observation, and day surgery
  • Utilize ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and other coding references to ensure accurate coding and classification (MS-DRG, APR-DRG)
  • Abstract and enter required clinical and coding data into the health information system
  • Maintain compliance with medical coding rules, regulatory standards, and payer guidelines
  • Collaborate with clinical teams and coding staff to resolve documentation and coding questions
  • Meet productivity goals while maintaining high coding quality and accuracy
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to evolving responsibilities in a remote healthcare coding environment
