  • Location: On-site in Nashville, TN (37203) — Nashville, Tennessee healthcare jobs
  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,181 - $1,312
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Shifts per Week: 5
  • Shift Duration: 8-hour days
  • Schedule: Flexible shifts; weekend options available (Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday). Must be available for training M–F 8:00am–4:30pm for the first 2 weeks.
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks
  • Role Type: Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) coder / Medical coder / DRG coder

Required & Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital inpatient coding required — experience in Tennessee or other U.S. hospitals preferred
  • 1–2 years of inpatient rehab coding experience preferred
  • IRF PAI coding experience required (assigning etiologic diagnosis, complications, comorbids, and interruption of stay diagnoses)
  • ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS expertise; MS-DRG / APR-DRG knowledge and POA assignment experience
  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management (HIM) / Health Information Technology (HIT) preferred
  • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification preferred (Certified Coding Specialist)
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHRs) and strong technical skills in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills for physician queries and documentation clarification

Key Responsibilities — Inpatient Rehab Coding / Medical Coder

  • Review and evaluate inpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and validate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
  • Perform coding and/or code/DRG validation across multiple entities, including IRF PAI submissions and DRG assignment
  • Apply all applicable ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, IRF PAI, and facility-specific coding guidelines
  • Maintain or exceed established accuracy and productivity standards for DRG coder and medical coding roles
  • Utilize complete patient documentation in code/DRG assignment, validation, and editing to support quality and compliance
  • Initiate, review, and edit physician queries in compliance with policy to ensure complete and defensible documentation
  • Stay current with official coding updates, coding guidelines, and organizational data quality standards
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Mission, and Value Statement; perform other duties as assigned
