Required Qualifications (CVICU RN / Critical Care Nurse)

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact license allowed if applicable)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience; CVICU/cardiac ICU experience preferred
  • Strong skills in medication titration (vesicants, pressors), sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with ventilators, tracheostomies, telemetry interpretation, and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Familiarity with PA catheter setup/interpretation, transvenous pacing, and cardioversion
  • Ability to float to other critical care areas as needed
  • Advanced competencies such as IABP, Impella, and CRRT highly desirable
  • CCRN or other critical care certification appreciated but not required

Core Responsibilities (CVICU / Cardiac ICU RN)

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill cardiovascular patients as a CVICU RN / critical care nurse
  • Monitor and manage complex cardiac devices and therapies (ECMO, LVAD, IABP, Impella, CRRT)
  • Interpret telemetry and hemodynamic data to guide treatment and medication titration
  • Administer and titrate critical medications, including pressors and sedatives
  • Assist with and perform advanced procedures: cardioversion, central line care, EGD support, bronchoscopy assist, chest tube management, pericardiocentesis, thoracentesis
  • Document patient care accurately in Cerner EMR and maintain clear interdisciplinary communication
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (cardiology, CV surgery, respiratory therapy, pharmacy) to optimize outcomes
  • Adhere to hospital policies including tobacco-free campus and uniform/scrub guidelines (all navy, all white, or navy/white combination)

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Experience with advanced cardiac support devices (IABP, Impella, LVAD) and mechanical circulatory support
  • CRRT competency and experience
  • ACLS, BLS required; PALS if relevant to unit population
  • CCRN, TNS, or specialty cardiac certifications are a plus
