Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) – Oakland, CA Contract

Experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) wanted for a 13-week travel nursing contract in Oakland, California. Join a high-acuity, on-site Emergency Department team caring for trauma and medically complex patients in a fast-paced environment. You will support a diverse patient population while working alongside respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, phlebotomy, and other interdisciplinary partners.

  • Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 4 patients per nurse
  • Department Overview: High-volume Emergency Department with approximately 44 beds, 9 fast-track spaces, and about 170 visits per day
  • Call: No on-call requirement
  • Scheduling: Intermittent weekend coverage required; ability to work 2 of 3 upcoming major holidays
  • Orientation: 36 hours

This Oakland travel nursing opportunity is ideal for an experienced Emergency Room RN seeking a rewarding California healthcare assignment.

Emergency Department RN Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience; 18 months may be considered for candidates with experience in a comparable facility
  • Active California Registered Nurse license
  • Current ACLS, BLS, CPI, and PALS certifications
  • Level I or Level II trauma experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
  • Experience administering blood products, managing IV vasopressors, and caring for ventilated patients
  • Proficiency with triage, phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • NIHSS and TNCC certifications preferred
  • MAB, Team, or CPI violence-prevention training must be completed before the start date; CPI certification is required
  • Comfort caring for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Willingness to float within the hospital when needed

Emergency Department Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with emergency, trauma, and medically complex conditions
  • Perform rapid assessments, prioritize care, and participate in Emergency Department triage
  • Monitor patients and recognize, interpret, and respond to dysrhythmias and changes in clinical status
  • Care for patients requiring ventilatory support and administer IV vasopressors according to established protocols
  • Safely administer blood products and maintain accurate documentation throughout treatment
  • Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access, collect specimens, and support diagnostic testing
  • Provide trauma-informed care while following emergency and isolation precautions
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and other members of the care team
  • Educate patients and families, promote safety, and support timely transitions of care
  • Maintain professional standards while adapting to changing patient volume and acuity
