Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Contract – Eureka, California

As a Travel Registered Nurse, you will work in a fast-paced Emergency Department caring for patients ranging from neonates and pediatrics through geriatrics. Travel RN Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
  • Location: Eureka, California
  • Department: Emergency Department
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • Contract Length: 26 weeks, through May 3, 2027
  • Weekend Requirement: Work 3 of every 6 weekends
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:4
  • Department Volume: Approximately 105 patients per day and 135 visits per day; 20 rooms and 26 beds
  • Orientation: 40 hours
  • Charting: Epic
  • Scrubs: Personal scrubs permitted; no prints

Emergency Department RN Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of recent Emergency Department RN experience
  • Valid California Registered Nurse license; compact license must be active and in hand at submission
  • Current ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC certifications
  • TNCC is preferred in hand; candidates willing to obtain TNCC before the start date may be considered
  • Experience caring for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients; neonatal and infant experience is beneficial
  • Strong skills in emergency assessment, triage, stabilization, medication administration, dysrhythmia recognition, and critical-care interventions
  • Epic experience preferred
  • Two professional references covering at least 1 year of experience within the last 3 years
  • Ability to float to an Observation Unit caring for Emergency Department hold patients when needed
  • Availability to work 3 of 5 designated holidays during the assignment

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Perform rapid assessments, triage, stabilization, and ongoing evaluation of patients with emergent and complex conditions
  • Provide emergency nursing care for patients ranging from neonates and children to adults and older adults
  • Manage medical, surgical, psychiatric, trauma, neurological, respiratory, cardiac, and toxicological emergencies
  • Administer emergency medications, blood products, IV therapies, sedation, and other ordered treatments
  • Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, stroke, sepsis, respiratory failure, and multisystem dysfunction
  • Assist with or perform emergency procedures such as intubation support, chest tube management, IV access, phlebotomy, and care of ventilated patients
  • Support trauma and high-acuity patient care in a Level III trauma setting
  • Provide compassionate care to patients experiencing behavioral health crises, suicidal ideation, overdose, abuse, or neglect
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, reassessments, and patient outcomes in Epic
  • Float to the Observation Unit as assigned and maintain safe, efficient care during periods of high department volume
