Qualifications / Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED and one of the following:
- Minimum 2 years of experience (paid or unpaid) in a human services field with direct patient/client interaction (e.g., coaching, teaching, case management), or
- Completion of at least 12 college credits in an accredited human services or nursing-related program (e.g., Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN program), or
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team (nurses, social workers, psychiatrists)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and observation skills for psychiatric patient care
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach and ability to support de-escalation techniques
- Basic clinical competency or willingness to be trained in EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care testing
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) documentation preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and support daily living activities: bathing, grooming, feeding, and mobility assistance
- Monitor and record vital signs, blood glucose, intake/output, and behavioral observations in the medical record
- Support a safe, therapeutic environment by observing patients and helping prevent falls, self-harm, or unsafe events
- Assist with admissions, discharges, and maintain clean, organized patient rooms on the psychiatric unit
- Use appropriate de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques to support agitated or distressed patients
- Perform basic clinical tasks (EKGs, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing) as trained to support nursing staff
- Collaborate with nurses, social workers, and the care team to promote positive patient outcomes and continuity of care
- Accurately document patient interactions, interventions, and observations in the EMR
