Job Description

Assistant Director of Nursing (RN) – Skilled Nursing

A Nursing Leadership Opportunity That Offers More Balance!

Are you an experienced RN leader looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on resident care, develop nursing teams, and lead clinical operations—without the demanding 24/7 on-call expectations that often come with nursing leadership?

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON/ADNS) to provide hands-on clinical and operational leadership within the Skilled Nursing Unit of an Assisted Living Community.

This is an excellent opportunity for a clinically strong nursing leader who enjoys being visible, supporting their team, improving quality outcomes, and ensuring residents receive exceptional care—all while enjoying a more flexible schedule and a supportive leadership environment.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Work-Life Balance: Flexible scheduling and no 24/7 on-call responsibilities.

  • Supportive Leadership: Collaborative environment with a strong onboarding and training program.

  • Meaningful Impact: Direct influence on resident care, clinical quality, and nursing team development.

  • Leadership & Growth: Opportunity to lead and develop RNs, Medication Technicians, and nursing support staff.

  • Hands-On Role: Be actively involved in daily clinical operations while partnering with the Director of Nursing.

What You'll Be Responsible For

As the primary operational nursing leader for the Skilled Nursing Unit, you will partner with the Director of Nursing to oversee daily clinical operations, staffing, regulatory compliance, and resident care.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical oversight and leadership to nursing staff, including RNs and Medication Technicians.

  • Support staffing, scheduling, recruitment, coaching, performance management, and team development.

  • Participate in resident care planning, assessments, and case management for Medicare and non-Medicare residents.

  • Oversee clinical documentation, resident assessments, and the RAI process to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Conduct daily clinical rounds and collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Lead infection prevention and control initiatives, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

  • Monitor resident outcomes, identify opportunities for improvement, and support restorative nursing programs.

  • Build positive relationships with residents, families, and staff while promoting a culture of compassionate, high-quality care.

What We're Looking For
  • Current, active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license.

  • Previous Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) experience is required.

  • Prior nursing leadership experience as an ADON, Unit Manager, Nurse Manager, or Charge Nurse with substantial leadership responsibilities.

  • At least 3 years of nursing management experience, including staff supervision, hiring, coaching, performance management, and daily operations.

  • Strong understanding of skilled nursing clinical practices and long-term care regulations.

  • Knowledge and experience with the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI).

  • Infection prevention and control training or experience.

  • Strong clinical judgment and the ability to provide hands-on support to the nursing team in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.

  • Life and Disability Insurance.

  • Retirement Savings Plans.

  • Paid Time Off, Sick Time, and Holiday Pay.

  • Tuition Reimbursement.

  • Employee Assistance and Discount Programs.

  • myFlexPay – access earned wages within hours of a shift.
