Operating Room Surgical Assistant Job Details

• Location: Ravenna, Ohio
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,690–$1,820
• Schedule: 40 hours per week
• Shift: 8-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
• Shift Duration: 8 hours
• Contract Length: 13 weeks, December 21, 2026–March 21, 2027
• Openings: 2
• Practice Setting: Eight-room operating room within a Level III trauma center
• Call: Participation in call responsibilities may be required

Surgical Assistant Job Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent surgical assisting experience in an operating room or perioperative setting
• Current surgical assistant license, certification, or applicable credential eligible for verification
• Demonstrated ability to provide surgical first-assist support across multiple service lines
• Experience or strong clinical proficiency with general, genitourinary, vascular, orthopedic—including MAKO—gynecologic, ear-nose-throat, and plastic surgery procedures is preferred
• Ability to work scheduled day shifts and participate in assigned operating room call coverage
• Successful completion of required competency, skills, health, and background verification processes

Operating Room Surgical Assistant Responsibilities

• Provide surgical first-assist support for a wide range of procedures performed in the operating room
• Support general, genitourinary, vascular, orthopedic—including MAKO—gynecologic, ear-nose-throat, and plastic surgery service lines
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and assist with exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, suturing, and other appropriate intraoperative tasks
• Maintain a sterile field and follow operating room safety, infection prevention, and surgical protocols
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, registered nurses, surgical technologists, and other members of the perioperative team
• Prepare for procedures, assist with equipment and supplies, and help promote efficient operating room flow
• Participate in assigned call coverage and respond to urgent surgical needs
