PACU Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Santa Rosa, California

Join a collaborative outpatient surgery team as a PACU Registered Nurse (RN) in Santa Rosa, CA. Provide preoperative care and Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery for a diverse patient population in a fast-paced setting serving approximately 10 patients per day. PACU Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,280–$2,400
  • Location: Santa Rosa, California
  • Healthcare Setting: Outpatient surgery, pre-op, PACU Phase I, PACU Phase II, and infusion therapy
  • Start Date: November 2, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Schedule: Five 8-hour day shifts per week, primarily 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
  • Scheduling: Start times may vary between 6:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.; flexibility is required to meet department needs
  • Weekend and Call Schedule: Monday–Friday schedule with no regular weekends or call
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:2
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in California; compact license must be active and in hand when applicable
  • At least 1 year of recent PACU, post-anesthesia care, or perioperative nursing experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Experience with electronic medical record documentation; Epic experience preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in preoperative assessment, Phase I and Phase II recovery, and post-anesthesia monitoring
  • Infusion therapy experience required
  • Ability to provide safe nursing care to pediatric through geriatric patients
  • Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and patient education skills
  • Willingness to remain available through the end of the scheduled day, as shift relief may not be available in outpatient surgery

PACU RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate nursing care throughout preoperative preparation and post-anesthesia recovery
  • Monitor patients during Phase I and Phase II recovery, including airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and pain status
  • Care for patients recovering from general, orthopedic, urologic, ophthalmic, ENT, gynecologic, vascular, plastic, and other outpatient procedures
  • Perform preoperative assessments, medication reconciliation, patient education, and discharge teaching
  • Administer and monitor procedural sedation, narcotic and opioid analgesics, reversal agents, nerve blocks, and other prescribed therapies
  • Recognize and manage dysrhythmias, blood glucose changes, pain, and other post-procedure concerns
  • Initiate and maintain IV access, manage ports and central lines, and provide infusion therapy
  • Complete circulation checks, obtain 12-lead ECGs when indicated, and monitor end-tidal CO2
  • Apply appropriate isolation precautions and follow emergency protocols, including malignant hyperthermia procedures
  • Coordinate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team and ensure patients meet appropriate discharge criteria
