- Setting: Inpatient NICU (Level IIIA) & Outpatient Clinic
- Start Date: July 1, 2026
- End Date: Ongoing (per diem; approximately one week per month)
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $6,150 – $7,280 (competitive locum tenens pay)
- Schedule: In-house coverage 8AM–4PM during coverage week; 24/7 out-of-house call with 20-minute response time
- Average Daily Census: 9–11 infants; NICU admissions average ~20/month
- Clinic: Outpatient clinic every Thursday (up to 7 patients)
- EMR: Epic (experience with Epic EMR preferred)
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Board Certified Physician (MD) in Pediatrics – Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (board-certified neonatologist)
- Active Pennsylvania medical license (PA license required for locum tenens coverage)
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Level III NICU setting; prior NICU physician or neonatal intensivist experience preferred
- Fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
- Required Certifications: ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, BLS, PALS
- Proficiency in advanced neonatal procedures and critical care (see responsibilities)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (neonatology team, nursing, respiratory therapy, NICU support staff)
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for neonates in a 16-bed Level IIIA NICU (expandable to 20 beds) as the on-site NICU physician
- Perform NICU rounds, admit and manage critically ill newborns, and direct neonatal intensive care (neonatal intensivist duties)
- Manage high-risk deliveries and C-sections (high-risk only) in collaboration with obstetrics teams
- Cover outpatient newborn clinic one day per week (Thursday) for follow-up and continuity of care
- Be available for 24/7 out-of-house call during coverage week with a 20-minute response time
- Collaborate closely with one full-time neonatologist and a team of 5 mid-level providers to coordinate NICU and newborn care
- Perform and supervise advanced neonatal procedures, including:
- Non-invasive and invasive ventilation management (NeoPuff, BiPAP/CPAP, ETT)
- Intubation (neonatal and pediatric)
- Central and arterial line placement
- Chest tube insertion, needle decompression, thoracentesis
- Lumbar puncture, paracentesis, exchange transfusions
- ECMO management (preferred experience)
- Interpretation of neonatal X-rays and EKGs
- Minor procedures such as circumcision and suturing minor lacerations
- Utilize Epic EMR for documentation, orders, and communication with care teams
