Job Details
- Position: Travel PICU Registered Nurse (RN) / Pediatric ICU RN
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090 - $2,200
- Location: Charlottesville, VA 22908 (Virginia travel nurse assignment)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (Day: 07:00-19:00 or Night: 19:00-07:00); rotating or straight nights available
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 (may be 2:1 with high acuity)
- Unit: PICU – 25 beds (daily census ~23)
- Weekend Coverage: Required (3 weekends per 6-week schedule)
- Float Requirement: May float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics as needed
Job Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of recent PICU experience (pediatric critical care experience required)
- Valid Registered Nurse license (Virginia or compact). Pending license accepted but must be in-hand before start
- BLS and PALS certifications required
- Epic charting experience required (electronic health record proficiency)
- BSN preferred
- Pediatric cardiac experience a plus (ECMO, VAD familiarity helpful)
- References required
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents in the PICU setting
- Manage and monitor critically ill pediatric patients, including cardiac and complex medical cases
- Perform and support advanced clinical skills: arterial line management, intubation assistance, ventilator management, central line care, CRRT, ECMO, VADs, and related critical care procedures
- Administer medications, blood products, and vaccines safely and accurately
- Interpret arterial blood gases, monitor hemodynamics, and respond promptly to rapid changes in patient condition
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, social services, and IV teams
- Float to NICU and Acute Care Pediatrics as staffing needs require
- Maintain strict infection control and isolation precautions
- Participate in orientation, complete required modules, and support unit-based education
