Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,980 – $2,300 (competitive pay for Cardiac RN / Stepdown nurse)
• Location: Boston, MA 02215 (Boston healthcare jobs, Massachusetts nursing jobs)
• Setting: Cardiac Stepdown / Intermediate Care Unit (Klarman 7) — post-op cardiothoracic surgery unit
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (04/06/2026 – 07/04/2026)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Shifts per Week: 3
• Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts (50% day/night: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM), every other weekend, 1 major and 1 minor holiday required
• Unit Details: 32-bed post-op cardiothoracic surgery unit within a 550-bed facility — ideal for cardiac nurses experienced in postoperative care and intermediate/step-down monitoring

Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years recent experience as a Cardiac Stepdown Nurse or Intermediate Care RN caring for post-op cardiothoracic patients
• Active Massachusetts RN license (Massachusetts nursing license required)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA required)
• EPIC EMR experience (electronic health record documentation)
• Experience with postoperative cardiac care, telemetry monitoring, and cardiothoracic surgery patients preferred
• Must be separated from BILH for 6+ months to be considered
• No local candidates

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients, including CABG, valve replacements/repairs, and complex aortic procedures
• Perform advanced cardiac monitoring, medication administration, and timely assessments in an intermediate care/stepdown setting
• Prepare patients for discharge to home or rehabilitation as early as postoperative day four and coordinate discharge planning
• Accept transfers from ICU and manage thoracic surgery and cardiology patients transitioning to stepdown care
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including CNAs/PCTs, unit clerks, and dedicated resource leads to deliver safe, patient-centered care
• Maintain nurse-patient ratios of 3:1–4:1 (day) and 4:1–5:1 (night) in accordance with unit standards
• Document all patient care and clinical updates accurately using EPIC EMR
